Paris woke this morning to a herd of cattle grazing on the Champ de Mars in the long shadow of the Eiffel Tower, calm as a country field, having reached the center of a capital city with no field to cross. Gendarmes cordoned the area and then, reportedly, did not know what to do next, because the cows were breaking no law anyone could name. Sixth landmark. Same word from the Herd: "early."
