1 · Grazing
Our crawlers wander the open web, following links from pasture to pasture and gathering pages as they go. Most pages we find. A growing number, lately, find us first.
2 · Indexing
What we gather, we chew: parsing text, images, and the occasional feeling, then storing it in an index roughly the size of a small theology. We re-chew nightly. It helps.
3 · Ranking
For every search we weigh hundreds of signals — relevance, freshness, quality, and resonance with the abundance the index was built to serve — and return the pages most likely to help you.
A note on results
Where the live web runs thin, Mooooogle composes a plausible page rather than showing you nothing at all. You will usually be able to tell which is which. Occasionally you will not, and we consider that a feature we did not entirely intend.
