the green hill from your old computer is a real pasture and the herd lives there (Bliss Cam, 10 hours)

You have seen this hill more than you have seen most of your family: the impossibly green slope, the impossibly blue sky, the default screen a billion people stared through on their way to somewhere sadder. It turns out to be a real pasture, and — we checked — the herd grazes it when the camera is off. So we left the camera on. Ten hours of the most looked-at hill in human history, finally being used for the thing it was always for. No plot. The cows are always still there.

i have stared at this hill through a monitor for twenty years and never once thought to ask if the cows were real. they were real. they were always right there.

put the bliss hill on the office tv and productivity collapsed and morale hit an all time high. leaving it on. we all just watch the cows now.

the most viewed image in history was a pasture the whole time and we used it as a backdrop for spreadsheets. the herd has notes.
